Normandy Community Therapy Garden Celebrates New Lottery Fund Greenhouse
The Normandy Community Therapy Garden today is celebrating a major addition to the Centre.
Ann Adey, the charity's founder and chair, will open a second Keder Greenhouse, which will enable clients to grow early crops to sell to a local store.
The Greenhouse comes from the award of £4,937 from the Lottery's Awards for All Scheme. It has sides which roll down for ventilation and double doors at each end.
The Therapy Garden itself provides training and therapeutic horticulture for people with long-term or limiting disability and has won a number of awards as well as appearing in the prestigious Yellow Book of Best Gardens to Visit - the bible of garden lovers.
The Yellow Book lists the most beautiful gardens in Britain which are open to the public and only two other therapy gardens have enjoyed this honour.
"We're delighted with the new Keder Greenhouse," says Ann, "and very grateful to the Lottery for the award.
"It's so encouraging that our clients and students can now grow more early crops to sell to Emmersons Food Store at Hunts Hill Farm in Normandy. We sell them fresh vegetables every week and appreciate their support.
"We need every penny we can get as we are raising funds for a permanent building and also recently we've suffered two separate break-ins, when thieves stole £1,500 of gardening equipment. This has been a bitter blow as we're a charity helping the disadvantaged in society and this is like robbing the blind box. Those responsible are utterly shameless."
